Meet the talent advocate with a passion for cultivating Melbourne’s superstars and upcoming legends.

What work do you do?

Technical Recruitment/Talent Advocate.

When you were at school did you know what work you wanted to do?

Absolutely not, although looking back I should have stuck to my guns and stayed in psychology.

How did you get started?

Like many people, I fell into recruitment. I was backpacking around Australia when I met a UX designer and I thought that what he did was interesting. I interviewed with the digital agency he was working at and that’s how I stepped into the tech field.

What do you love most about your work?

Having a supportive team, knowing my shit, and having a passion for what I do.

What was your biggest fail along the way?

Joining a company for the brand name and not for what I was passionate about.

What is your biggest accomplishment so far?

Moving to Australia, allowing myself to fail and ultimately quitting a job that I was not happy in, to take a chance on myself and join a start-up.

Who helped you get to where you are today?

Ultimately it was me, but it was a long road to get there. I was told that the decisions I was making were the wrong ones, or that I would regret leaving a cushy job, or a well-regarded college, but I took the chance on myself and didn’t listen to the outside voices, only to my heart.

How has technology changed your industry in the last 5-10 years?

It has completely changed the way that people communicate with one another. From a recruitment perspective, LinkedIn and SEEK have changed the game to gain accessibility to candidates who may be actively looking for a new job or profiles of people who would be best suited to a role.

What advice would you give to young girls thinking about pursuing a career in your industry?

Be resilient, learn how to multitask, don’t be afraid to ask questions, YOU WILL MESS SOMETHING UP (it is inevitable) so be ok with knowing that and do not let it get in the way of you taking a chance on yourself.

In your wildest dreams, what would you love to do every single day and get paid for it?

Travel the world, learn about different cultures, practice mindfulness and find ways to give back in a meaningful way.
